Natural forms often inspire my gallery artwork, and I like use materials as metaphors. My “Aperio” and “Li” series are informed by my love of rivers, and a personal dialogue with found natural objects. I’ll use driftwood to represent things earthly, or gold leaf for the spiritual. I like to express the beauty of broken-ness and decay.
Recently, in pieces like “Legato Con Amore”, I have been exploring nuances of personal relationships through engraved “floating” poetry or imagined conversations on glass surfaces. These works nod to art historical European glass traditions and engage the viewer in the risk and reward of deciphering decorative text on juxtaposed faces of intertwined, transparent forms.
I am renewed and encouraged by the physical work; by making, often as much, if not more, than I am by an end result.
